Annual Perrin Lansing Chapter Retreat at Camp Wa Wa Sum on the Au Sable River

Camp Wa Wa Sum is a Michigan State University conference center and research facility used by the Department of Fisheries, Department of Wildlife, and Department of Forestry. It is located on the Au Sable River, 6 miles east of Grayling. The name Wa Wa Sum means "plain view" in the Chippewa language and was given to the camp in 1905 by Chief David Shoppenagon, an Au Sable River guide and outdoorsman. The first building was constructed of red pine and tamarack logs in 1897-98 by Rubin Babbit, an Au Sable woodsman who later became Michigan's first wildlife officer.

The rustic surroundings of Camp Wa Wa Sum and beautiful Au Sable River provide a pleasant setting for the annual Perrin Lansing Chapter retreat held in late June or early July.
